Yeah, my Super Ostrich came in the mail yesterday! These V2 1/60 VF-1s are the best looking and most fun Macross products from Yamato yet. For a more detailed review of the V2 mold, please read my VE-1 Elint Seeker review. There are no differences between these VF-1s except for accessories, color, and head (and a bulkier cockpit for 2-seaters).
Why a Super Ostrich, why not?!? The VT-1 is a 2-seater training jet that sports fast-packs on the legs and back. Like the VE-1, it doesn't have an armament of missiles or a gunpod; this jet doesn't have fast-pack attachments to its forearms either. The jet looks a lot like a VF-1D with a different head and fast-packs. Side to side comparisons with other VF-1s does make the VT-1 look rather dull, but having all the engines exposed inside the fast-packs does give the toy an iconic look.
The sheer rarity of a transformable VT-1 toy is the reason why I got this Super Ostrich. It's also fun to play with, easy to pose and looks immaculate just like other V2s from Yamato. There have been issues with the shoulders breaking on these VF-1s, but they are usually caused during production. So if you get your V2 VF-1 in perfect condition, the chances are that it will stay that way. For most Macross purists this VT-1 is a must have, so I won't even bother to recommend it. I'm giving it a 9.5/10 (Excellent).
